Uniforms

Uniforms are available at the Scout Shop at 664 West Broadway in Vancouver. There is free parking in the back.

• Beavers should purchase a vest, a hat and optionally, a Pond Map. The Pond Map can be downloaded.
• Cubs should purchase a shirt and optionally, a Jungle Map, which replaces the Cub Book. The Jungle Map can be downloaded.
• Scouts should purchase a shirt and optionally, a Canadian Trails Map, which replaces the Scout Book. The Canadian Trails Map can be downloaded.
• Venturers and Rovers should purchase a shirt.
• Scouters should purchase a shirt, which will be reimbursed by the Group. The Scouter Handbook, is online at the Canadian Path website.
• There are lots of other optional things to purchase there like vests and campfire blankets.
• Note that the Pond Map, Jungle Map, and Canadian Trails maps are available for download from the Canadian Path website.

Group specific items (Fraser Valley Council Crest, Coho Area Crest and 12th New Westminster Group Crest), a woggle, a Group necker (scarf), woggle, and a Tail (for Beavers only) and other Section-specific uniform insignia, will be presented when the member is invested into the Section. Often the parents assist when their child is invested.

The Group Commissioner will provide the Sections with 12th New Westminster Crest and neckers for the youth. The individual Sections should arrange to get the other items required for investiture from the Scout Shop. The youth investitures are typically done by the Section Scouters.

For Scouters, the Group Commissioner or a senior Section Scouter will provide the necker and all required insignia, and perform the investiture. When Scouters are invested, they receive Group-specific crests (Fraser Valley Council, Coho Area, and 12th New Westminster Group), a Group necker, Respect in Sport Badge, and a Section-specific role insignia for the Section(s) in which they are active Scouters. They will receive a leather Woodbadge woggle from the Group Commissioner when their Woodbadge for the Canadian Path training is complete. Often the child of the Scouter assists with the investiture by putting the necker on their parent.

Only specific items are to be sewn onto uniforms. All other patches for event, camps, etc. are to sewn onto a campfire blanket. Items that are allowed on a uniform are limited to the following:

• Outdoor Adventure Skills Badges, Personal Achievement Badges, Awards, top Section Award,
• Agency Awards,
• Religion in Life Emblem,
• 1967/2007/2017 Anniversary badges,
• Religious Affiliation,
• Language Strip,
• FLEX (Cubs)/FAST (Scouts)/FOCUS (Venturers) Badge,
• World Scout Environment Program,
• Lodge/Six/Patrol Insignia,
• Link Badges, and
• Role Insignia (Scouters).
• Respect in Sport Badge

Parents need to know where to sew items onto the uniforms. This information can be found on the Scouts Canada wiki page. The old (pre-Canadian Path) placement was as follows Media:insignia-placement-2012.pdf Link badges are given to youth as they move from Section to Section and can be presented at Swim Up / Leap Up / Climb Up / Swagger Up or the next meeting. These go on the bottom of the left sleeve.

Service Stripes go on the lower left sleeve and represent the number of years as both a youth and a Scouter in the Scouting program. White ones represent one year and the gold ones represent five years. Anyone transferring from the Guiding program can count their years in that program also. Myscouts keeps track of the years, but it is often inaccurate. The Group Commissioner should keep track of these years of service.

Periodically, we need to order new Group neckers and Group crests. These can be ordered from Zone West at (604) 460-2828, http://www.zonewest.net/ The cost is ~$2.00 for crests and ~$8.00 for neckers, depending on the number ordered.
