The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is Section specific event which has historically held in the fall (usually late September) at a location like Sapperton Landing Park, Fraser Foreshore Park, or Maquabeak Park. As part of our community service, we give back by cleaning up local parks or waterways. Until 2019, it was an all-Section event, but we have grown too large for this to continue.
When the event is registered on the The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup website and we track and submit a record of what we collected, free crests can be requested.
Participants should bring a water bottle, bring their own gloves, and dress for the weather.
The Section will arrange for disposable gloves and garbage bags.
Things to remember to do before the event
- An Adventure Application Form (AAF) is required for this event complete with a Member Details Report and a safety plan in place (meeting place, explain dangers to the kids, Section leads sign youth in and out, first aid, etc.)
- Register the event on the The Great Canadian Shoreline website. Contact the Group Commissioner for the username and password.
- When a cleanup is done in Metro Vancouver Regional Park, a “Special Event / Use” permit is required. There is an Indemnification Agreement in the form but because Metro Vancouver has signed the Scouts Canada Indemnification Agreement, we don't need to get it signed by Doug Smith at the Scout office. The Vancouver Aquarium arranges insurance through the City, so Michelle Yu at the Scout office does not need to provide a copy.

- New Westminster has indicated on the Shoreline Cleanup website that they do not want cleanups done in their city parks.

- Large black garbage bags.
- Box of latex or rubber gloves.
- Hand sanitizer.
- First-aid kit.
- Bring the Shoreline Cleanup evaluation sheets to fill out on the day of the event.
- Clipboards and pens.
