General
12th New Westminster is the only Scouting Group currently active in New Westminster, BC. We fall under the Fraser Valley Council of Scouts Canada. Before the Areas were disbanded, we were part of the Coho Area.

Sections
We have the following Scouting Sections within 12th New Westminster: two Beaver Colonies (Tweedsmuir Colony A and Knox Colony B), two Cub Packs, two Scout Troops, a Venturer Company and a Rover Crew.
Beaver Scouts
The Beaver Scout program is intended for youth between ages 5 and 7 (Kindergarten - Grade 2). Activities include crafts, games, sports, music, hikes, and camping.
Cub Scouts
The Cub Scout program is intended for youth between ages 8 and 10 (Grades 3 - 5). Activities of the program include hiking, camping, activities such as canoeing and kayaking.
Scouts
The Scout program is intended for youth between ages 11 and 14 (Grades 6 - 9). Activities include outdoor activities, camping, and hiking.
Venturer Scouts
The Venturer Scout program is intended for teens between ages 14 and 17 (Grades 9 - 12), offering exciting, real life, hands-on experiences for youth. Activities include hiking, camping, and training programs.
Rover Scouts
Rover Scouts is the final youth stage of Scouting, aimed at teens and young adults between 18 and 26 years old. Activities include adventurous activities and helping in local communities.
The 10 Essentials
These are the 10 essentials that you should have on all hikes:
- Navigation (map and compass)
- Sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen)
- Insulation (extra clothing)
- Illumination (headlamp/flashlight)
- First-aid supplies
- Fire (waterproof matches/lighter/candles)
- Repair kit and tools
- Nutrition (extra food)
- Hydration (extra water)
- Emergency shelter
