Revision as of 17:05, 10 January 2019

February 22nd is the birthday of both our Founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his wife, the World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-Powell. During Scout-Guide Week, members of Scouts Canada and Girl Guides hold special activities to promote our movements.

Scout-Guide Week is the Sunday-Sunday week in which their birthdays fall. We attend a church service during Scout-Guide Week. As we use both Queens Ave. United Church and Knox Presbyterian Church, we alternate this event between the two churches year to year. In 2015, it was at Queens. In 2016 and 2017, it was at Knox.

We typically march into the church with our Section flags (or just the Scout flag) and have them displayed at the side during the service. We attend, but do not typically participate in, the service.

Often, we make a donation to the Church at this time in thanks for our use of the facilities. It is usually in the order of $200. As we now use two Churches, we now donate $100 to each of the two Churches every year.

As with all Scouting events, everyone attends in full uniform.

Before the event, remember to do the following:

  • Discuss and plan the event in the Group Committee meeting.
  • Contact the Church and advise them that we are coming.
  • Determine who will bring the Scout flag(s).

On the day of the event, remember to do the following:

  • Pick up the Scout flags from the locker.
  • Assemble in the parking lot at 10:45.
  • At 10:55, all the Scouts/Cubs/Beavers will meet at the entrance to the sanctuary with the Scout flag(s). The Minster will say hello to us all and say a prayer. Then we all follow the person who carries the Bible to the front of the church. Whoever is carrying the flag(s) sets it (them) into a stand at the side of the pulpit and we all sit down in the front few rows.
